The Preserved Railways Website

Hi and welcome to the Preserved Railways Website. The aim of this website is to list details of all the preserved railways that are open to the public and operate a passenger service that currently exist in the UK. This includes details of where they are situated, how to get there, their routes, what timetables they run, the fares charged by these railways, website details, special needs access and any other details thought relevant for people considering visiting any of these railways.

Hythe Station
Hythe Station on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway - one of the UK's many excellent passenger-carrying heritage railways

This site will be a little different to other heritage railway websites and facilities that list all heritage railway sites, be they a railway that takes passengers, a preserved industrial railway or a railway centre/museum that has static displays of heritage rolling stock. This site will only list railways that operate a regularly-timetabled, passenger service between two or more stations. That's because we aim to provide a starting off point for people looking to step back in time to an age when the railway was king in this country and people travelled by rail rather than road and travel on a railway run just as it would have been in times past.

At the moment there's no content for each of the railways listed - don't worry, there'll be content soon enough! - so each of the links to the left will take you to the respective railway's website. (Please be aware that clicking on the link will open a new browser tab/window). Once content for each of these railways is added to the site, their website details and a link to the website will then be listed in the section devoted to the railway in question for those visitors to this site who wish to visit the website for the railway they may be interested in visiting.

A forum has been provided on this site so that visitors to the site have the opportunity to talk and chat about heritage railways. Click on the link below to visit the site forum:-

As some of you may notice, not all preserved railways that operate a passenger service are currently listed. Don't worry, that's not because we are not aware of them or forgotten to add details of them but have simply not got round - yet - to adding details. They will be added, though, in the fullness of time and this site will be updated regularly. If, however, you feel that a site has been overlooked and you feel it should be included then simply click on the "E-mail The Site" link and drop us an e-mail and let us know of the railway that you feel should be included. We will then look into the railway recommended and include it if it meets the criteria for inclusion on this website - that it is a passenger carrying heritage railway open to the general public.
